U.S. stock indexes fell for the fifth straight session on Tuesday to the lowest point in more than 12 years as auto and home sales data helped perpetuate the most punishing bear market in the post-World War II era. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 37.27 points, or 0.55%, to 6726.02, its fifth-straight decline and its eleventh in the past 13 sessions for its lowest close since 21 April 1997.
Australian stocks are seen extending losses on Wednesday, with a grim outlook for global financial stocks likely to pressure domestic banks, but gains in miners such as BHP Billiton Ltd (BHP) could help limit losses in the broader market.
LGL
Lihir Gold Ltd’s (LGL) planned institutional placement is through a book build process with an indicative price of $3.00 a share, which is a 9% discount to the miner's last traded price of $3.31.
Lihir said that it plans to raise US$325 million to speed up a plant expansion at the Lihir mine in Papua New Guinea and to position the company for growth opportunities.
RIO
With commodities mostly positive overseas look for some upside today on Rio Tinto Ltd (RIO) with a target above the $45 mark. It is well supported around $41.60 and is also a great stock for selling premium on.
Should BHP and RIO fall today in line with the broader market, they will both enter very strong buy territory.
